UAE – Mubasher: Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), a major Emirati industrial company, has completed the country’s first historic industrial technology project to export UAE-developed industrial technology.
Through its deal with Aluminium Bahrain (Alba), EGA has become the first Emirati industrial firm to license its core process technology internationally, according to a press release on Sunday.
Alba’s new production facility, 'Line 6 Expansion Project', which is supported by EGA’s DX+ Ultra technology, was inaugurated by King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain, on 24 November this year.
Moreover, EGA has passed a final performance guarantee test at Alba with exceptional results that exceed EGA’s commitments under the technology transfer agreement.
“The production capacity of each reduction cell is 11% higher than EGA guaranteed, whilst specific energy consumption – a measure of the electricity required to produce each tonne of aluminium – is one% better than promised, a significant reduction in the energy-intensive smelting process,” the statement said.
Commenting on this announcement, Alba’s acting CEO, Ali Al Baqali, said, “We selected EGA’s smelting technology because it was the best in the world for our Potline 6. We are also pleased that the performance of EGA’s technology has exceeded our expectations.”
It is noteworthy that EGA is equally-owned by Mubadala Investment Company and the Investment Corporation of Dubai, and has been developing its own industrial technology in the UAE for over 25 years and has used it for every smelter expansion since the 1990s while retrofitting all of its older production lines.
